Pool a Great Sport

I am not sure when, where or how the game of pool and it's rules, came to be, but whoever did think of the nature of such a game, deserves a lot of respect. Just coming up with the idea of a table with pockets at the corner's and sides for balls to fall in, was simply genius. Placing balls inside of a wooden rack, shaped like a triangle and then hitting them all with just one ball, was simply brilliant. The planning that went into this game, must have taken a lot of studying. I do not think the inventor of the game realized how far the length of his idea would go, or how much people would actually enjoy it.

The rules of the game have been the same through the years and people of all walks of life have had a lot of fun playing. Years ago when the game was played, it was done in a pool hall. Back then the game was only played by men. After they came home from a hard day at their job, they would play the game to unwind before going home. Eventually, tables were placed in the neighborhood bars to draw in more customers. This was a great idea for business and it left the owner of the establishment very happy.

The structure of the table has always been important. It needs to be a certain size and it needs to be level. You would need to have a lot of room for the table and space for the players to be able to play. The top of the table is covered with felt to prevent the balls from flying when struck with the cue stick. Some people prefer to own their own table in their home. They can choose to buy one that is very affordable, or they can buy a very expensive one. Whatever they choose, the game is still played the same and it is always fun to play.


The cue stick is one of the most important part of the game. Without it, the game can not be played, and it's proper use can make or break your ability to play. Each person that plays and uses a "house stick", needs to test it out for the feel that they are looking for in order to strike the balls. A lot of people have their own personal stick that they purchased for themselves. They carry it in a case to bring to the games that they play. Owning your own stick, makes you look a little more like a professional which sometimes intimidates other players. Some people do this as a form of strategy as well. However cue control is of paramount importance in the game of billiards and pool.

Since the birth of the game, there have been a variety of people that have enjoyed it. Women, who had no interest in the game years ago, have been enjoying it for a long time now. They even play in big tournaments against other women and men. Children are also getting into the sport these days. Instead of playing video games, they are playing the game of pool more often where they can learn strategy and tips from other players to become better opponents. It doesn't matter who you are, how old you are, or how good you are, the fun and competition of the game is just endless for everyone.
